New
Cabinet in Tunisia
Focus
on Free Trade Zone with EU and Tourism- Second Importance
to Maghreb
Tunisia
has a new cabinet. This latest reshuffle provides important
indications on Tunisia’s economic and regional policies. While
most economic posts have been maintained, there is more focus
on strengthening trade and diplomatic relations with Europe,
boosting the profile of the tourism industry, and maintaining
the country’s industrial policy based on a corporate modernization
and upgrade program.
While the
appointment of a State Secretary of Maghreb affairs wants
to signal the interest of Tunisia in advancing a United
Maghreb, the actual appointment to this post of a junior
minister who will also be in charge of African affairs
is indeed an indication of lack of strong interest on
Maghreb affairs at the highest level of government.
