TO SIGN FREE TRADE DEAL
Algeria and the European
Union may sign a free trade and partnership agreement as
early as July 2001. Reliable sources in Brussels, Belgium
say the Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika will be
present during the signing ceremony which will be initiated
by the Belgian government after it takes over the EU presidency
on July 1, 2001.

the World's Most Powerful Investors
Mourad
Cherif, the chairman of the ONA Group, Morocco's biggest private
conglomerate, has been travelling to western business centers
to promote his company and to lure investors into Morocco.
Gulf countries are also the target of a charm offensive. The
recent visit to Morocco of a trade mission from the United
Arab Emirates led by the son of Sheik Zayed has energized
the Moroccans who are now knocking directly at investors doors
to sell them the Morocco destination.

figures - Trade Deficit Up 90%
Preliminary figures
from the foreign trade bureau show Morocco's foreign
transactions were up 5.5% to DH 16.73 billion as of
January 2001 compared to the same period a year ago.
The month of January was particularly characterized
by an important rise of imports against and noticeable
drop of exports, causing a further aggravation of
Morocco's trade deficit.

managed by millionaire Issaad Rebrab, a businessman
