Some 400,000 civil servants may be laid off from state administrations soon. This rumor is raising concerns among labor activists. The announcement of a wage increase was not enough to lower tension in the labor world in Algeria. Many accuse the government to seek to compensate for the increase of wages in the state budget by preparing massive layoffs.

No End to Hunting Ban in Algeria

unting in Algeria is still illegal. A ban on the use of firearms for hunting went into effect in 1992 as Algeria was going through one of its most difficult political crises. Today, hunters are asking the government to reconsider its position and are demanding that their firearms be returned after their seizure by police and military authorities.

New Highway in the Sahara
Algeria has officially opened a new highway, the National-3 or RN3, linking the extreme southeast of the country and the north of the Illizi prefecture to Ouargla and northern Algeria. RN3 is 1,317 kilometer long and the Illizi-Djanet route if 405.5 kilometers. With this new highway, the region of Djanet is no longer isolated.
