The U.S. and Britain have closed their embassies in Yemen, citing security
concerns, after both countries announced they would boost aid to help the Yemeni
government fight al Qaeda. While the move may be a normal reaction to
deteriorating security conditions, Al Qaeda thrives in environments where
poverty dominates and political turmoil and instability are enablers. In this
news clip, Deputy Editor of the North Africa Journal Alessandro Bruno explains
that because of Yemen's topography and politics, military aid would do little to
curb terrorism and socio-economic assistance will be more helpful. Watch
