The North Africa Journal is pleased to announce the holding of the 2008 North Africa petroleum and security forum. This year's theme is "Positive Outlook Amid a Challenging Security Environment."

The event will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Houston, Texas, and will focus on the following topics:

1. The current state of North Africa's oil and gas sector and petroleum economy, with an autlook assessment of growth and opportunity.

2. An evaluation of the current security situation and risk projection.

Introduction:

North Africa's oil and gas sector has been a magnet for intensive investments over the past decade, a trend likely to continue in the foreseeable future. While a great deal of investment has been focusing on exploration and production, leading North Africa countries are now focusing on building up their refining infrastructure to support their export targets as the growth in global energy consumption is sustained.

However, while the region has attracted massive petroleum-related investments, it is also grappling with security issues. Although security-related events have made the front pages of newspapers, they are unlikely to affect oil and gas-related operations. With Al Qaeda as a top concern, the region has no shortage of challenges in need of viable solutions. And yet, despite the current security climate, the outlook for the growth in the industry remains positive.

In light of these events, the North Africa Journal brings the "North Africa Petroleum and Security Forum: Positive Outlook Amid a Challenging Security Climate". This one day event will feature independent industry analysts from The North Africa Journal, Lehman Brothers, The Center for Strategic and International Studies, Goldwyn Strategies, Eurasia and others. These analysts will present their views and insights on the state of the oil and gas industry in North Africa, as well as an outlook of what to expect in the region in the short and long terms. In addition, analysts will provide their assessment of the security climate and what companies are doing and should expect going forward.
