CALL FOR PAPERS:
AN INVITATION TO PRESENT

The North Africa Journal is pleased to invite you to participate in the North Africa Petroleum and Security Forum. Set for February 27, 2008, in Houston, Texas, the conference will provide opportunities for you to share your knowledge with an audience of industry professionals, senior executives, top analysts, and government officials from the United States and elsewhere.

The North Africa Petroleum and Security Forum is the only event of its kind ever held in the North America providing insights and intelligence on issues related to the petroleum sector in the emerging economies of North Africa, while bringing unparalleled understanding of security risks in the region.

All papers and presentations will be published in the forum proceedings. Presenters are asked to submit their abstracts or an outline of what they will present, in which format and an introduction of themselves and the organization they represent.

To guide you on what to focus of your presentation, please consider the two following factors: topics and audience.

  • The topics of the conference include, but not limited to:

    o Country focus: Producing regions of Algeria and Libya, with minor focus on other producing regions. Coverage for these countries is either individual or at the regional level.

    o Petroleum track: we recommend focusing on the general economics, current state and growth prospect of the sectors of exploration, production, transport, refining, distribution, marketing, export, legislation, and fiscality/taxation.

    o Security track: we recommend focusing on all aspects of industry-risk and country-risk analysis. Focus on topics includes current security and risk environment and ways/recommendations to reduce it.

  • Attendees and intended audience include, but not limited to:

    o Corporate Executives
    o Senior Business Development Executives
    o Emergency Response Executives
    o General Oil & Gas Operators
    o Pipeline Managers/Developers
    o Engineers and Constructors
    o Local and Intl Distribution Company Managers
    o Risk Analysis Personnel
    o Investment Banking Executives
    o Government Officials
    o Government Analysts
    o Other

  • Abstracts due: Noon U.S. Eastern Standard Time, November 15, 2007

  • Notification sent to accepted speakers: November 30, 2007

  • Notification sent to declined speakers: November 30, 2007

  • Paper due to conference: Noon EST January 10, 2008

  • Presentation slides due: Noon EST January 30, 2008

  • Conference date: February 27, 2008

Note: Abstracts must be submitted by November 15, 2007. Speakers whose abstracts are accepted will be asked to submit their papers and PowerPoint presentations for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings. Detailed written paper submission requirements and presentation guidelines will be sent following abstract acceptance.


Abstract Format

Speaker Information:

  • List the names of presenter and co-presenters, organization, and complete address, including phone, fax, and e-mail.

  • Please note that only presenters and co-presenters listed on the abstract form may present at the conference. Unfortunately, substitutions cannot be made for security purposes, so be sure to list all co-presenters.

Presentation Information:

  • List the title of the abstract, and be sure to indicate the audience for which your presentation is most appropriate:

    1. Senior Corporate Executives
    2. Governments
    3. Petroleum Industry Practitioners
    4. Security Practitioners

  • Next, please indicate which subject matter topic(s) your paper will address. Then, please write concise learning objectives for your presentation, focusing on what the participant will gain from your presentation.

  • Next, write short descriptions of the presentation, including abstracts -a 75-word version and a 200-word version.

    • The 200-word description is for us to review.
    • If your abstract is accepted, the 75-word description will be included in the conference program.

Speakers whose abstracts are accepted will be asked to submit their papers and PowerPoint presentations for inclusion in the Conference Proceedings. Detailed written paper submission requirements and presentation guidelines will be sent following abstract acceptance. The Conference Committee will review all papers and speakers may be asked to edit their papers as needed.

Selection Criteria

  • Basic Theme: The abstract must convey the basic theme of the presentation.

  • Value of the Subject: The presentation scope and originality must be of interest to a significant number of expected conference attendees.

  • Topic: Presentations can address one of the key focus areas listed above.

Paper Editing

The Conference Committee will review all papers and speakers may be asked to edit their papers as needed.
