Despite Global Economic Downturn, Tunisia's Economic Growth Stays in Positive Territory
Tunisia has managed somewhat to resist the effects of the world’s economic recession in 2009.
The weather conditions were positive, helping the country's farming sector and domestic consumption remained healthy. Although exports (one of the economy’s pillars of the national economy with 47% of GDP) have sharply dropped (-18%), Tunisia’s economy grew 3% in 2009, down from 2008 (+4.6%), an outcome that was far better than expected given the global economic environment.
