A Brief Look at Algeria’s Trade Relations with France and Japan

While Algerian officials are generally satisfied with their country’s economic ties with France, there is growing frustration over Japan’s position in general.

Algeria is a critical market for French products and services. The former colony is France’s biggest market in Africa and third outside of the OECD zone, behind China and Russia. France is also Algeria’s first investor in the oil and gas sector. In all, 300 French companies operated in Algeria in 2008, three times more than 2005, with total employment of 30,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs. The Algerian government should rely on Algerian companies public and private alike, rather than on French or foreign ones. Create and promote Algerian entrepreneurs, invest in education, research and technology.
Foreign companies, just come to Algeria to pump natural resources.
Algerian people do not need them . . .
