A Brief Look at Algeria’s Trade Relations with France and Japan

Algeria is a critical market for French products and services. The former colony
is France’s biggest market in Africa and third outside of the OECD zone,
behind China and Russia. France is also Algeria’s first investor in the oil
and gas sector. In all, 300 French companies operated in Algeria in 2008, three
times more than 2005, with total employment of 30,000 direct jobs and 100,000
indirect jobs. Trade between the two countries has grown significantly, expected
