The Libyans and the Korean Daewoo Chemical are reportedly negotiating the construction of a petrochemical plant in Libya.

The Libyan government is looking to use its partnership model with the Norwegian firm Yara to convince Daewoo to engage in Ethylene production. Yara and Libya have already inked an agreement for a fertilizer facility in Marsa Brega in Libya.

These discussions and projects are part of Libya’s efforts to establish the foundations of a wider petrochemical industry. Projects involving foreign capital and expertise have been launched, including the construction of a refinery in the oil terminal of Ras Lanouf in partnership with Star, a company from the United Arab Emirates.
