EVENT DETAILS
[Country
focus: North Africa, West Africa, Sahel]
Global demand for mining, natural gas and crude oil continues to expand
despite weak economic growth in Europe and low growth in the US. In
this context, North and West Africa remain important suppliers of commodities,
while dealing with substantial political upheaval. The region's multi-faceted
crises are affecting many global companies, whose management are currently
pondering what posture to take going forward in a region that could
witness a permanent state of crisis.
In
this telebriefing, the second on this issue, we will update customers
on what we are seeing and what we expect going forward. The focus will
be on the following:
Discussion 1: State of political affairs
and security in North and West Africa and Sahel: The first part of the
briefing will provide the latest update on the state of the political
affairs and the security environment of the region. It will included
a post-election assessment for Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt and
progress report on Libya. It will address the geopolitical issues affecting
Mali, Niger, Guinea Bissau and other events in the broad West Africa
region. Our analysts will also discuss how political challenges and
weak economies of Europe are affecting the region.
Discussion 2: State of economic and
business affairs. This session will assess if and how doing business
in the region has evolved or changed as a result of the political upheavals
witnessed in the past months. Some topics of the discussion will include:
- Inventory of on going risks
- Expected risks: Outlook
- Unfolding revolutions and reputational risks
- Case studies of companies facing reputational degradation and crisis
management
- Proposed approach to North Africa/West Africa risk management
