High Oil Prices and Their Impact on North Africa
Back
in my undergrad time when I took oil economics in the
late 1980s, the prevailing theory was that oil prices
followed an up-and-down cycle. The cycle was the result
of several factors, and apart from the geopolitical ones,
of equal importance was when prices were high enough,
they created an incentive to invest on oil fields that

Avian Flu and North Africa's State of Prepardnes

Avian Flu: How Prepared is Morocco?
While the government is attempting to calm fear over the
possibility that bird flu can reach Morocco, it has yet
to be seen whether the existing surveillance system is efficient
enough to prevent a potential pandemic. Several Moroccan
analysts fear the current state of preparedness remains
inadequate. Having observed how the carcasses of chickens
are discarded in public waste fields in a report published
by the press last November, they argue that waste management
remains a critical problem, in particular when dealing with
birds and poultry. [read

Africa Works to Avert Avian Flu Outbreak with the Help of
FAO
The
U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization FAO will help North
African governments monitor the potential outbreak of
the avian flu. With the flu already spread in nearby Turkey,

causing a lot of worries about the population and authorities.
The project will, over an 18-month time span, assist the
recipient countries of the North Africa region to mount
emergency preparedness for the eventuality of introduction
of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). [read

Clemency Law
Algeria's reconciliation efforts aimed at halting all terror

the families of those who fell victim of terror have essentially
sided against Bouteflika's amnesty and forgiveness policy
effective since 2000. [read

Gas Dispute Forces Rethinking on a Timetable for the Construction
of an Algeria-Italy Pipeline
The Galsi gas project, a pipeline that will link Algeria to
the Italian island of Sardinia in Italy could be built ahead
