Muamar Kaddafi Offers Libya as a Naval Base for the Russian Military

After its extraordinary and speedy opening to the West, Libya is now courting Russia, a move highly appreciated by Moscow given the opportunity to expand its influence in the region.

While on a recent official visit in Moscow, the Libyan leader Muamar Kaddafi has offered the Russians to establish a naval base in Libya, more precisely in Benghazi. Kaddafi is essentially reacting to the lack of positive feedback from the Americans in the area of diplomacy, economic and military cooperation and as such, he is turning to the Russians.
